It all started on the tennis court. My dear friend, Kim Howie and I love to play together and decided to become doubles partners. I’d miss a shot and I would berate myself but she would remain positive saying something like, “Let’s just stay focused on our strengths and remember why we love to play tennis ~ because it’s fun!” Then we started to look for positive aspects in our abilities, and in doing so, tapped into each other’s strengths. At 6’1”, not a lot gets over my head so we decided I should play the net most of the time-“you have a great wing span”, Kim says. And we put Kim closer to the service line as she is consistent and can blanket the court.
We talked about these differences in ourselves. We talked about a lot of things before and after each match and we realized something. First, we enjoyed the talks we had with each other and the other women we play with. We’d laugh. We’d find joy in sharing advice about our kids, jobs, husbands and futures. And second, we realized we all have wisdom that is helpful to share with each other.
Today, we have the world at our fingertips. We can access mountains of information with the touch of a button. But, with all of that gain, there’s something we’ve lost.
We can’t always find the connections, the intimacy, that sincere look in the eye or pat on the back.
So that’s why we created the Wisdom Coalition.
We asked ourselves, what is the secret to happiness? We feel it is finding joy in every day and every experience. The Wisdom Coalition, LLC is built on the foundation that there is power in joy.
The Wisdom Coalition will create the support women are missing today by providing them with words of wisdom, practical tools, and advice needed to maintain a positive, hopeful outlook about the future. We will impart uplifting messages in an interactive SAFE (Secure, Authentic, Friendly, Energizing) environment, encouraging women to reboot, refuel, and recharge to create a positive outlook enabling them to find joy in every aspect of their lives.
Today, we are all so busy and many of us don’t take the time to put the brakes on once in awhile to just focus on us. Our forums offer this purpose in a setting that will be informative, intimate and comfortable. We will have a panel of experts to discuss each topic but it will be an interactive event as we feel our effort is collaborative and all women have wisdom to share with each other.
The Wisdom Coalition is being created by Kim Howie, Health Coach, author, and designer of the Pure Energy Program, and Nancy Werteen, television news reporter and anchor with WFMZ-TV-69, currently producing a series called, “Life Lessons” which focuses on health and wellness tips. Advising Partner in the venture is Heather Rodale, VP, Community Outreach and a member of the Board of Directors for Rodale Inc.
