We just quietly celebrated our eighth year in business as Lehigh Valley Woman’s Journal. We began as a print publication in October, 2008 and transitioned to online in 2011. We have had the privilege of meeting so many wonderful people as a result of publishing this magazine. Change is inevitable and my personal life has changed a great deal since 2008 as well. All my children are now adults. I have been a parent since 1987 and have had minor children in my care since then, until 2016. Now I am moving on to a new stage in my life. Though I have worked and attended university throughout the years, now, in 2016 I am also working on my thesis for my MFA in creative writing. After years of being a journalist/reporter, I am now moving on to a new writing venue, which is creative non-fiction. My thesis is actually a book written about the true experiences of an army man serving in the Vietnam war. He worked in the engineering battalion early in the war and because of that he didn’t see a lot of direct combat, but what he did see and experience is worth hearing about. His experiences are shocking, tragic, funny, touching, educational and romantic. Yes, even romantic since he married a Vietnamese woman. When I am finished it will be a publishable book and available for all to read.
When I graduate next year, I am hoping to teach composition as an adjunct professor for an online university. In keeping with these changes, we will be initiating a new column where you are invited to send in your fiction and creative non-fiction articles for consideration. If they are published, you will have your picture and byline published as well, and have the opportunity to have them posted throughout social media. Just submit your stories in a word doc to email@example.com. No word limit.
So, with this article, I am also beginning a new blog which will address many issues. Writing, real estate, spirituality, just to name a few. We will be publishing this blog bi-weekly and also new articles as they come in, so check back with us throughout the month to see what’s happening. Also, if there is a topic you would like to see covered in Lehigh Valley Woman’s Journal, please email me at the same address above.
Till next time…
