It is the Holiday season and as expected, there is quite a bit going on. It is a time of year when everyone sort of puts the mental breaks on and is in a mad dash to “get it all done” and that includes helping people. All of humanity should have some level of community mindedness and a desire to improve the quality of life for our fellow man. Unfortunately that is just not the way this world works. Thank God that I am not responsible for the world. I am only responsible for me. What little power I have to exact change, is in myself and so it is with you too.
I learned a long time ago that there was no bigger mistake I could make that to do nothing because all I could do was a little. Mother Theresa said, “If you can’t feed a hundred people, then feed just one.” If we each do our small part, then together with everyone else’s small part, we can change the world one little bit at time. And so, my music related sharing this month will be to direct you to events that are also designed to help people. I will share some recent accomplishments of Lehigh Valley Women and I wish you all a Holiday and a life filled with love and prosperity.
An organization that is near and dear to my heart is The Lehigh Valley Music Awards (LVMA). They promote, honor and reward the hard-working musicians and music related businesses in the Lehigh Valley. One of the ways they do this is through their annual awards show and ceremony. This year the event will be held at the prestigious Musikfest Café presented by Yuengling ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks, December 4th, Doors: 3:00pm, Show: 4:00pm $13 in advance / $18 at door. www.artsquest.org/pages/details.php?52320
The event will be Hosted by A.J. Fritz and Grover Silcox along with many celebrity guest presenters. Opening the event this year will be: James Ruhf & City of Bethlehem Bagpipe Band & Drum Corp,
Lane Conklin, The Ella Canta ( Former ACCO Members) with East Coast Dance Connection, Alonzo Gross ‘Zo’, Scott Marshall performing “With Every New Day” a Tribute song inspired by the life of this years special guest; Adam Recke.
Adam Recke is a special little boy with a very rare disease called Niemann-Pick Type C. This rare and terminal disease affects very few individuals; in fact there are approximately only 500 cases worldwide. Adam is a very charismatic young man, his sweet innocent smile and infections laugh inspire all who meet him. A special live auction will be conducted to raise funds for the Race For Adam Foundation, an organization dedicated to funding research projects to find a treatment and cure for Niemann-Pick Type C disease (NP-C) and related neurodegenerative disorders. http://www.raceforadam.com

Donna Houck is the better half of 2nd Story Blues and she and her husband Les take preserving and promoting the Blues as an American musical art very seriously. 3 years ago they began with seed money of their own for the purpose of consistently bringing live national blues performers to the area. The cost of presenting these shows has increased with each passing year. To help raise the necessary funds needed to keep 2nd Story Blues going Donna and Les have invented Gourd Girl.
Gourd Girl represents the blues and the passion they have for keeping it alive in the Valley. These hand grown, hand painted gourds will be sold to fund blues supporting efforts.
